Driving Directions

Local Driving Directions

Directions from Asheville:

  • Follow I-40 West to Exit 27, which is Clyde, Waynesville, 19/23 Exit.
  • Stay on 19/23, which is a four-lane highway, for approximately 21.5 miles.
  • Take Exit 85, which is the East Sylva, Cullowhee, West Carolina University (WCU) Exit.
  • Drive straight to the T-intersection at Highway 107.
  • Turn left onto Highway 107, going towards WCU and Southwestern Community College (SCC).
  • At the 4th traffic light, turn right onto Highway 116. At this intersection, Smoky Mountain High School is on the left, and the State Employees Credit Union and an Ingles Store are on the right.
  • Travel about 1/8 mile, and the Jackson County Department of Social Services is located on the right-hand side of the road across from the Department of Transportation.
  • Park in the front parking lot and proceed to the receptionist.

Directions from West/South of Sylva:

  • Take Highway 74 from Murphy, Andrews, Nantahala, Robbinsville, or Bryson City to the last Sylva Exit (Exit 85). This is also the exit for Harris Regional Hospital, WCU, and SCC.
  • Travel to the T-intersection at Highway 107.
  • Turn left onto Highway 107, going towards WCU and SCC.
  • At the 4th traffic light (at the Highway 116 intersection), you will turn right onto Highway 116. At the intersection, an Ingles and a State Employees Credit Union are on the right, while Smoky Mountain High School is on the left.
  • Drive about 1/8 mile, and you will find the Jackson County Department of Social Services on the right-hand side of the road across from the Department of Transportation.
  • Park in the front parking lot and proceed to the receptionist.

Directions from Highlands, Franklin, and Hayesville:

  • Travel 441 North, past Dillsboro, and take Highway 74 (towards Waynesville and Asheville).
  • Get off at the second exit for Sylva (Exit 85).
  • Drive to the T-intersection at Highway 107.
  • Turn left onto Highway 107 (going towards WCU and SCC).
  • At the 4th traffic light (at the Highway 116 intersection), you will turn right onto Highway 116. An Ingles Store and a State Employees Credit Union are on the right, while Smoky Mountain High School is on the left at this intersection.
  • Drive about 1/8 mile, and you will see the Jackson County Department of Social Services on the right-hand side of the road opposite the Department of Transportation.
  • Park in the front parking lot and proceed to the receptionist.

Directions from Cullowhee, Little Canada, and Cashiers:

  • Take Highway 107 North into Sylva.
  • At the first traffic intersection (Highway 116), turn left. Smoky Mountain High School is on the right at this light, and there is an Ingles Store and a State Employees Credit Union on the left.
  • Drive about 1/8 mile, and the Jackson County Department of Social Services is situated on the right-hand side of the road across from the Department of Transportation.
  • Park in the front parking lot and proceed to the receptionist.
