- DEAP - Disaster Energy Assistance Program Disaster Energy Benefits can help those who suffered losses related to Hurricane Helene in the 25 affected counties. the counties included are Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties. Benefits can be used to pay for: Assistance with utility bills, Utility Reconnection Costs/Fees, Utility Tanks, Utility Meter Repair, Propane/Fuel Oil Tanks, Natural gas/propane line repair, Propane/Fuel Oil Supply, Insulation Replacement, Replacement of wiring/circuit board needed to heat the home, Furnace repair or replacement costs, Coats and Blankets, Space Heaters/Electric Heaters. To be eligible for Disaster Energy Assistance, a household must have at least one U.S citizen or eligible non-citizen and : Have income equal to or less than 60% of the state median income Have resided in one of the identified 25 disaster declared counties listed above during Hurricane Helene and are currently residing in one of those 25 counties. Have been impacted and suffered a loss because of Hurricane Helene. Jackson County DSS is currently taking applications for the Disaster Energy Assistance Program until funds are exhausted. Providers who complete services/repairs must be licensed and the service/repair must be completed within 45 days of the approved request.
